What is Scuba Diving?

Before we can answer the question why you should become a certified scuba diver – it is important to know what scuba diving is.

The answer is surprising simple – it is the independent ability to breathe underwater via a Self-contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) while exploring or swimming at depth that does not exceed your training or ability.

Why should you become a Certified Scuba Diver?

The attraction to the underwater world and its mysteries is by far one of the best reasons to become a certified scuba diver.  Let’s face it, human beings cannot naturally breathe underwater therefore this unattainable undersea world then becomes an attraction largely because we cannot control it.  Or can we?

At Ocean Encounters, we specialize in both PADI and SSI courses for every level, from beginner to dive professional. If you are short on time or just want to experience diving for the first time, then sign up for our PADI Discover Scuba Diving half day activity to give it a “try” without no experience necessary. Once you try, you’ll definitely want to join our SSI Open Water Diver Course or PADI Open Water Diver Course to become a certified diver for life!

PADI and SSI Scuba Diving Certifications

If you’re fascinated by the underwater world and the amazing creatures who live there, a PADI or SSI scuba diving certification is your passport to extraordinary experiences that support healthy oceans. A scuba diving license identifies you as an underwater explorer and ambassador for the ocean.

A scuba certification course is much more than just learning how to explore the underwater world safely (but that’s definitely covered). It’s a great way to reconnect with the natural world.

By the time you finish your PADI or SSI Open Water Diver course, you’ll understand our ocean planet in a new way.

Refresh your Scuba Diving Certification

Already certified but have not been scuba diving for awhile?

Your PADI or SSI scuba diving certification never expires; but if you haven’t been diving in a while, it’s better to be over-prepared than risk a problem because you forget something important.

As a good diver, you should be able to use your own own judgement to determine whether or not you would benefit from a thorough refresher program, or just need an easy check-dive to get yourself back into the water.

BUT… If you’ve been out of the water for any length of time then some form of refresher is eminently sensible. The Scuba Diving Refresher Course is a fun, engaging, and efficient way to refresh your scuba skills. You can move quickly through topics you know well, but have the ability to dive deeper into the topics where your knowledge may have lapsed.

PADI or SSI Scuba Certification Referral Program

Can’t decide whether to get your scuba certification while on holiday in Curaçao or at home before you travel?

A PADI or an SSI referral course allows you to complete most of your scuba training at home before you leave on vacation – then you can finish your certification dives right here in Curaçao!

This means you can support your local dive shop and avoid studying during your vacation at the same time.  In other words, instead of spending 4-5 days of your holiday studying and practicing skills in a pool, you’ll arrive with the majority of your open water course done.

The final portion of the course typically takes a day and a half to complete. Once certified, you can spend the rest of your time exploring the beautiful fringing reefs here in Curaçao with your dive buddy while gaining additional dive experience.
