Free societies are not simply made, they are fought for. The advances in human civilization and enlightened thought can only be held as long as there are those who would defend them from the tyranny of those who would see their fellow man live in subjugation and oppression.
History is written in the blood of the men who would brave the horrors of war in order to see their families and their countrymen live in a realm free of want, fear and oppression. The phrase “freedom isn’t free” is thought of as clichéd only by those who do not understand the sacrifices these men make.
I propose a toast to the warriors gathered here today. These men volunteered to move to the sound of the guns when most would flee. I can not think of a more powerful expression of one’s love towards his fellow man than the sacrifices that have been made by you to ensure the safety and security of your nation.
The word “hero” gets tossed around quite a bit, but I can think of no better word than to describe the group of men assembled here tonight.
Let us also remember our fallen brothers-in-arms who can not share this meal with us, and honor their memory by cherishing our lives. You all sent a powerful message this week: that although the body of the American fighting man may be broken, his spirit cannot be. I am very honored, and humbled, to be in your company.

WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao – (August 16, 2010) – Ocean Encounters, a premier family owned and operated dive facility, in conjunction with Hilton Curaçao, will sponsor a dive program with SUDS (Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Scuba) from October 13th to the19th. The program will take place at Ocean Encounters’ Hilton facilities, located on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao. Accommodations and boat diving excursions will be provided to the soldiers. Other sponsors for the program include Breezes Curaçao, Curaçao Tourism Board, the USFOL and the US Consulate.
SUDS is a charitable and educational non-profit corporation formed for the purpose of bettering the lives of disabled veterans through participation in SCUBA diving. Earlier this year, representatives from Ocean Encounters approached SUDS president John Thompson and SUDS representative, Carla Chatterton with the idea of bringing the group to Curaçao.
“The majority of the soldiers were severely injured during their tour of duty. This will not only be a rewarding experience for them but for all of us at Ocean Encounters,” commented Christian Ambrosi, manager and owner of Ocean Encounters.
“This initiative will provide our hotel with the opportunity to give back to these heroes and we are honored to be a part of the program,” said Maritza Molina, director of sales & marketing at Hilton Curaçao.
